In March 2005 the metal finishing associations of KwaZulu Natal, Western Cape and Gauteng joined forces to form the South African Metal Finishing Association. (SAMFA) This alliance today represents a significant proportion of the metal finishing industry in the country and membership includes electroplaters, powder coaters, anodisers and suppliers to the trade. The association was born out of need clearly highlighted during 2000 when Danish funding was first made available to the industry to execute cleaner production programs. The implementation was initially constrained due to the absence of organised representation within the industry. Thanks to DANIDA's intervention the strong foundation from which SAMFA operates today was put into place.
There are several key areas where membership of SAMFA offers clearly defined benefits. Our credo “SAMFA Your partner in the Industry” broadly describes the association's role. Every activity in which SAMFA is engaged has grown out of real industry needs.Some have been there for a long time. Others are new challenges that have presented themselves through rapid growth in industrial development, globalisation and fundamental changes in our society.
